Have you ever wondered how a new cleat goes from an idea to a reality? After launching the new Hypervenom, Nike has released some key sketches by their designers that will gives a bit of insight into the thought process and design ideas used while developing their new silo.


 
It all starts with the notes. As you can see, Nike had a clear idea for what they wanted out of their new silo: agility and strike. With feedback from some of their key players and their product development expertise, designers knew exactly where they were going with the design of the new Hypervenom.





One of the things highlighted during yesterday¡¯s launch was how Nike worked with some of the world¡¯s top podiatrists and really considered the anatomy of the foot when developing this boot. In these sketches, you can see some of the key insights that led the design team¡¯s first design efforts.





With those things in mind, the next step was developing a design that incorporated new elements to improve on those aspects. The grove on the forefoot to activate the first metatarsal, the clean strike zone with a shorter lacing and the dynamic support cage are all examples of concepts developed at this stage.







The new Hypervenom also incorporates important changes in the outsole, helping players with faster penetration of the ground and a quicker release. A responsive, yet lightweight chassis for the outsole was key to developing a more agile boot. At the same time, the new stud configuration and decoupled outsole came to life as designers worked on the finishing touches of the boot¡¯s structure.





Last but not least, Nike had the challenge to develop a completely revamped upper. The new NikeSkin technology with ACC finishing, including a dimpled texture for a better grip on the ball, was their response to player¡¯s feedback on the need of a boot that gets as close as possible to the feeling of playing barefoot.

Launching a new boot involves a lot of style too, which led the team to go for the original Black and Bright Citrus colorway for the big release, although you can expect a lot more interesting paintjobs coming for the new Hypervenom very soon!
